Do a defragmentation.
On NNTP fragments to a file are allocated not very far away.
On Mails/RSS the chance is more accurate (As far ad my tired
brain has a logic).

Suggestions:
Try to defrag the harddisc.
Do you have any Anti-Virus or Anti-SPAM installed?

Do they help?
